Desire & Beauty (1:1-2:7)
The poem begins by introducing the couple’s deep desire for one another. The woman doubts her beauty and value, but her man delights in her. This session explores God’s good design for desire, challenges the beauty standards our culture promotes, and introduces the perfect love of Jesus.
Purity & Grace (2:8-3:5)
The couple’s love grows. We read of excitement, anticipation, and longing, yet the couple choose patience and self-control. This session explores why God’s boundaries are good, how He offers us grace in our failings, and what it looks like to pursue relationships His way.
Joy & Unity (3:6-5:1)
This session celebrates love, marriage, and sexual intimacy as part of God’s good design. The poem contrasts King Solomon’s distorted example with the beauty of faithful, committed love, and again points us to the greater love found in Christ.
Conflict & Commitment (5:2-6:3)
The couple experience a moment of conflict and separation. The session explores forgiveness, reconciliation, and a love that remains committed through life’s challenges.
Love & Connection (6:4-8:4)
The poem celebrates the couple’s affection, joy, and commitment. Their love continues to deepen. This session reflects on how God’s design is far more beautiful than the alternatives our culture offers.
Faithful & Enduring (8:5-14)
The poem finishes by celebrating a love that has grown deeper, stronger, and more secure over time, revisiting themes of desire, purity, commitment, beauty, and joy. The series concludes by celebrating God’s design and looking forward to the day when all His promises are fulfilled, seeing how every longing is ultimately satisfied in Christ.
